What is a Five-Point Harness System?
A five-point harness system is comprised of straps or webbing that extend over your child’s hips, shoulders/collar bones, and between their legs.
Where is the Five-Point Harness System located on the car seat?
The five-point harness is located on the front of the seat where you secure your child.
Why does the seat need a Five-Point Harness System?
Injuries occur when crash force energy comes in contact with your child. Energy cannot be destroyed; it can only be managed or diverted away from your child. Incorporating a five-point harness in the seat allows the energy to be diverted away from your child over five points of contact with the seat.
How does the Five-Point Harness System work?
A five-point harness system is designed to make contact with the strongest parts of the body – the hips and shoulders, and transfer crash forces over those strong parts of the body. At Britax we understand that children are safer in a five-point harness and that is why we have created seats with internal harness systems that accommodate children up to 80 pounds.
We are not the only ones who understand that a five-point harness is safe – race car drivers and fighter pilots use five-point harness systems for the same reason.
How long has Britax incorporated a Five-Point Harness System in their seats?
At Britax, we have always incorporated five-point harness systems in our seats. The first seat that Britax brought to North America, the Freeway in 1996, incorporated a five-point harness.
