What is Click & Safe?
Click & Safe is an audible indicator to help determine when the child seat harness is within range of appropriate snugness. It is important to understand that the Click & Safe snug harness indicator is a secondary feature and parents should still be aware of what is considered to be appropriate.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), you should adjust the belts provided with your child seat so that they fit snugly around your child. A snug strap should not allow any slack; it lies in a relatively straight line without sagging and does not press on the child’s flesh or push the child’s body into an unnatural position. You should NOT be able to pinch excess webbing at the shoulder once the harness is properly secured.

Where is Click & Safe located on the car seat?

The actual Click & Safe mechanism is located in the seat’s adjuster housing unit. Seats that have the Click & Safe snug harness indicator mechanism have the Click & Safe logo located near the harness adjuster flap.

Why does the seat need Click & Safe?
A study released by the NHTSA revealed that 59% of child harnesses were too loose. The job of a child seat is to limit injury to your child. One way that it limits injury to your child is by keeping your child properly positioned in a child seat and by limiting movement by being snugly harnessed. Loose harness straps leave your child vulnerable to injury during a crash because they will allow your child to move out of position and could even lead to ejection from the child seat.

How does Click & Safe work?
The actual Click & Safe mechanism is a mechanical device that has been engineered to sense tension when the adjuster strap is pulled. It is crucial that all slack has been removed from around the child’s hips and that the harness straps are properly positioned at the child’s shoulders in order for the Click & Safe mechanism to provide an accurate reading.
