What are HUGS™?
HUGS stands for “Harness Ultra-Guard System” and are chest pads made of elasto polymer with treads on the back side.
Where are HUGS located on the car seat?
HUGS are located on the chest area of the harness straps for select convertible and combination Harness-2-Booster seats.
How does my child benefit from a seat that features HUGS?
The job of a car seat is to minimize injury during a crash, and one way that a car seat accomplishes that is by minimizing the forward movement of your child during a crash. HUGS chest pads is a BRITAX technology which accomplishes this.
How does HUGS work?
The Harness Ultra-Guard System assists in reducing forward movement of your child in the event of a crash by adding friction to the harness against your child’s chest as they move forward.
Although the HUGS chest pads are recommended for children in the forward-facing installation mode for seats that come equipped with them, they are optional in the rear-facing installation mode where your child is instead cradled by the child seat back in a frontal impact.
Select BRITAX car seats feature HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology, which further reduce the risk of head injury. For more information about how they work, visit our HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology page.
How long has BRITAX incorporated HUGS in their seats?
We have been incorporating HUGS in our products since 2000.
